About John Wolff Associates, LLC
John Wolff Associates, LLC, was formed in October of 2007 to provide flexible and custom-tailored philanthropic consulting services to a wide variety of not-for-profit organizations, including colleges and universities. The firm's founder and principal, John Wolff, has over 25 years' experience in fundraising and advancement. For the past eight years, he served as senior consultant for Marts & Lundy, Inc., a nationally known fundraising consulting firm. During that time, he served many private and public colleges, in addition to a wide variety of other not-for-profits in healthcare, arts and culture, and social services throughout the Eastern United States from Maine to Michigan to Florida. He served a number of colleges in both the State University of New York (SUNY) and in the Pennsylvania State (PASSHE) systems.
Prior to joining Marts & Lundy, John served as Vice President for College Relations from 1991-1999 at Utica College, leading the most successful capital campaign to date in the College’s history. Before Utica College, he held senior level staff positions at D'Youville College (vice president), the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, and the University of Richmond. In his consulting work, he served as interim chief advancement officer at the University at Albany (SUNY) and Mansfield University (PA), managing advancement operations and serving on presidents' executive committees and as liaison to related boards.
John’s consulting services for his clients have included internal assessments (audits), feasibility studies, board workshops, and campaign planning
and preparation. He has also worked extensively with institutionally related foundations for campaign preparation and relationship building.
John earned a bachelor's degree in English and a master's degree in education at Niagara University. He has been active in the Utica/New Hartford community as a long-time member and board member of Rotary, and he served for ten years on the board of trustees of the Utica Public Library, with an additional year as president. He also commits time to pro bono advising for local not-for-profits.
The philosophy of John Wolff Associates is centered in client service, carefully and individually tailored to meet the advancement needs of the organization and the philanthropic intentions of its constituents. During his many years in fundraising as a staff member and consultant, John has had the honor of serving a number of public and private institutions. He knows that while many schools and colleges may appear to be alike, each has a distinct history, character, and even a personality of its own. Consequently, an approach to advancement counsel must be matched to each client to best achieve its philanthropic goals. John Wolff Associates is well-equipped and ready to create a collegial partnership focused on client success.
